Please refresh the page and retry. W omen are almost three times more likely to appear nude in Hollywood films than men are, according to new analysis. The annual Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California looked at the top films of , and found while just nine per cent of men were nude, that figure soared to 26 per cent for women. Women were also generally still not portrayed in career roles or at work; when their working status was known, they were rarely depicted as professionals or leaders.

Throughout the history of art, male artists have been lauding the female nude, taking pleasure in painting and sculpting unclothed women for centuries. From Venus appearing as an apparition from inside a scallop shell most famously by Botticelli , to the infamous reclining nude think Manet, Modigliani, Titian , it seems male artists have always had a thing for naked women. As we all know, women have not been treated kindly by art history. And, while women continued to study at their, they were only permitted to draw casts of nude figures and not the real thing in the flesh.
