So I am totally freaking out this is my second week in preceptorship and I was stuck by the needle that is inside of the urine collection cup the patient is hep C positive they sent off blood work on her and she is HIV negative thankfully But I do not want to get the hep C either when her urinary analysis came back she has Trace Amounts of blood in her urine I was wearing gloves and I squeezed and squeezed my finger until it literally turned white and started to hurt I am so scared!!!!!!!!!! A urine collection device or UCD is a device that allows the collection of urine for analysis as in medical or forensic urinalysis or for purposes of simple elimination as in vehicles engaged in long voyages and not equipped with toilets , particularly aircraft and spacecraft. UCDs of the latter type are sometimes called piddle packs. Similar devices are used, primarily by men, to manage urinary incontinence. These devices attached to the outside of the penile area and direct urine into a separate collection chamber such as a leg or bedside bag. External products should not be used by any individual who experiences urinary retention without overflow incontinence. A urine collection device allows an individual to empty his or her bladder into a container hygienically and without spilling urine.

Cytology is the examination of cells from the body under a microscope. In a urine cytology exam, a doctor looks at cells collected from a urine specimen to see how they look and function. The test commonly checks for infection, inflammatory disease of the urinary tract, cancer, or precancerous conditions. Urine cytology is better at finding larger and more aggressive cancers than small, slow growing cancers. This procedure is different from a biopsy in that it examines individual cells, rather than pieces of tissue containing many cell clusters.
