The Crown has filed a preferred indictment to send a Middle Sackville man directly to trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court on sex-related charges involving his stepdaughter and one of her friends. He faces two charges of sexual assault and single counts of assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, uttering threats, making sexually explicit material available to a person under the age of 18, using a telecommunication device to lure a child for a sexual purpose, making child pornography, possessing child pornography and invitation to sexual touching. A preliminary inquiry was supposed to be held Monday in Halifax provincial court, but Crown attorney Perry Borden bypassed that hearing by announcing he was filing a preferred indictment. Judge Gregory Lenehan ordered the man to appear in Supreme Court this Thursday to begin the process of setting dates for a jury trial.

The man appeared in Supreme Court in Halifax on Thursday via a video link from the Dartmouth jail, for the purpose of setting trial dates.
