Quarter midget racing is a youth-oriented sport involving scaled-down race cars designed for kids ages 5 to 15, officials said. The cars feature roll cages and seat harnesses. The young drivers, race officials said, wear full face helmets and fire-retardant race gear.
Kyle, a second-grader at Poet-Christian School, is in his third year of racing midget sprint cars. He started Saturday with the fastest qualifying time in the Junior Animal Class, 7. He had the second-best qualifying time in the Junior Honda Class and then won his heat and the main event.
