So glad to see someone discussing this sadly elusive TV-movie. Matheson is extremely proud of it, noting that some medical schools have used it as an educational film, but regrets that despite Van Dyke's potent, Emmy-nominated performance, it has never been made available on home video. He had no idea when he wrote the script that Van Dyke would be starring in it, or that he was battling alcoholism; Van Dyke later told him that when he read it, he felt as though someone had been looking in through his window. Matheson was also disappointed that ABC could not show a stronger two-hour version and had to cut it down to 90 minutes with commercials.
