A year-old girl fell to death from a highrise on the Sheikh Zayed Road as she tried to take a selfie, the Dubai Police have confirmed. Colonel Faisal Al Qasim, director of the police's security media, told Khaleej Times the girl tried to take a selfie from the balcony of her parents' 17th-floor apartment when she fell. She was standing on a chair in the balcony when she lost balance and plunged to death. She died on the spot. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fall. Though this is the first ever such case reported in the UAE, deaths caused by reckless selfies, or 'killfies' as they are known, are not rare.

WSAZ -- More details have been released about an incident Monday evening that involved a young girl falling into a grease trap. Police say the girl's mother pulled her out of the hole. Charleston EMS crews say the lid was on the drain but not completely. The incident happened at a restaurant near Southridge Boulevard when investigators say the girl ran off and slipped into the hole. Her mother reached in and was able to grab her daughter, who was submerged in nearly 4 feet of grease.

The schoolgirl was airlifted to hospital after the heart-stopping fall at Gwithian, one of the most popular beaches in Cornwall, at around midday. The beach, one of the longest in Britain, was packed with families on their summer holidays at the time of the suspected accident. Cliffs line the beach, near the town of Hayle, and children like to jump off a rocky outcrop into 'Sheep's Pool' - but it is unclear in which area the girl fell. We sent a coastguard rescue team to assist the lifeguards. She had a suspected head injury.
